I just wanted to make note of the Phoenix Suns who have decided to wear their "LOS SUNS" latin jerseys for tonight's game 2 against my San Antonio Spurs. Its a clear message in support of the latin community there in Arizona and I think alot of people are gonna be commenting on it, whether it be good or bad. The new immigration law that was signed into law in Arizona is somewhat of a hot topic right now. I for one, understand both sides of the argument and know the urgent need for some sort of immigration reform, but this law caught us all off guard and its tough, discriminating, somewhat legal-racial profiling nature of the law is what turns me against it. How can you honestly know who is suspect of being an illegal without making assumptions and racially profiling the person. Yes there are many illegal immigrants in Arizona who do need to be dealt with, but in terms of helping them to either become legal or at least put them into some sort of system that would track them and their activities. There are also many legal Mexican-Americans who even though they are legal, look and talk just as the illegals do. There are bound to be issues with civil liberties in carrying out the new law. How can you not mistake someone who is legal with the ones who are not. I myself am a product of illegal immigration. My parents came here illegally from Mexico nearly 30 years ago, but they were given the chance to become legal after many years of hard work and now they are here legally. That is what we need. We cannot deny that the illegals that already do work in the US help our economy more than we realize. We need to help those who are already here to become legal, and make it easier for those wanting to come here legally. As for the illegal drug lords and criminals, boot their ass out and let them rot in their own countrys' jails. LOL this is where I can be attacked by saying how can you boot them out if you dont look for them and question their legal status like the new law says. Well its a work in progress, but thats why we need a national immigration reform to help define all these categories and make guidelines on how to deal with it all. Im just saying it would be best to help the genuinely hard working illegals to become legal which has worked for my family in the past so why not now.
Geezzz, I sure can ramble on about nothing and end up with such a vague conclusion LOL. It started off as a comment about some basketball jerseys and went on and on about a vague idea...wow...ok enough for now...
ohh and by the way.....GO SPURS GO!
I love those jerseys!! And I agree with you on Arizona's immigration law. Yes, our country, and especially those states bordering Mexico, needs a better solution for dealing with immigration, but this law is only encouraging ignorance, prejudice and racism!!
ReplyDeleteStupid Suns won, although I'm glad they're being vocal of their support for the Latino community.
